Elmar initially studied double bass in Austria’s Conservatory in Innsbruck. Then he keep studied at the Vienna Academy of Music, where he studied from Ludwig Streicher. He also learned the Jazz improvisation in Austria Graz Jazz Academy during that time and also had the collaboration with Wayne Darling.Later on he studied in electronic and experimental music school in Vienna followed by Dieter Kaufmann, and he callaborated with the bass masters Barré Phillips Orchestra.
Elmar began his tour in Austria, Germany and Italy Since 1988. In 1991 ,he has found the band of “Dada Kongress” . In 1992,he co-produced the album “Tyromania-Tour” with the Austrian national television. In1993, he began on solo tour in Italy, Belgium and France. In 1995 ,he participated in the sound art festival in Munich with works “Wellenbrecher” . And in 1996 he started callaborated with Fred Frith, has recorded Rabenstein in Bayern2 radio, and he cooperated with Cornelie Müller about the album“hier & jetzt“.
Since improvisation is an important part of his music, he tried to put individual elements and the music combine in a variety of structural forms as primers, and eventually collide with the mind together. It is hard for him to tell where his music journey will go, but this trip never comes to an end because the music is a continuous changing process. In addition, the solo is an extremely important aspect of performance that allows the formation of a person’s performance rich effect. Elmar has worked with many jazz players; his music was influenced by them for many years so he always shows the respect for them, they are Fernando Grillo, Stefano Scodanibbio, Barre Phillips, Barry Guy, and Dave Holland.
Elmar has now been living and working in Munich.
